Evaluation Question 7: Looking back at your preliminary task, what have you learnt in the progression from it to the full project?

Looking back at my preliminary task of making my college magazine, I have learnt a variation of techniques to make my final product stand out. moreover, my knowledge on designing and editing has increased, which can be seen between my college magazine designs and my final product.
For the designing process, I learnt how to apply the typography of my magazine to the genre of my magazine, which would allow my product to stand out etc.

Above, are two different products that, which I designed, on the left is my college magazine from my preliminary task and on the right is my Final product, my music magazine. Between these two, you can clearly see the areas that I have improved in and the different changes which I have made.
for my college magazine, my sell lines are simple just like my music magazine, however they are less noticeable to the audiences eye and doesn't really give much off and does not really relate to each other as well, also the design motif I aimed for didn't really work compared to my front cover of my music magazine design, my college magazine masthead doesn't really stand out compared to my san serif, Bebas Neue font, which has a presence to it making it noticeable to a consumer. To make my masthead stand out I used different typography on my page and put different sell lines and important facts in different font sizes, however I used the same font on my college magazine and did not increase font size to make my most important sell line identifiable for my consumer.
On the other hand, I did have some knowledge on what to include props wise, to allow my audience and what type of picture I was supposed to use, which was a mid-shot as they are commonly used for magazine front cover's.

Evaluation Question 6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Evaluation Question 5:How did you attract/address the audience?

Evaluation Question 4: Who would be the audience of your media product?

Evaluation Question 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Evaluation Question 1:In What ways does your Media product use, develop/challenge forms and conventions of real media products

In my media products I have developed all the forms and conventions of real media products. In my work I have evidenced each of the forms and conventions in my my media products. For my Front cover magazine, I used 'The Source' magazine layout to help me create my hip-hop front cover magazine, I did this as I liked the layout of the front cover, as it was simple, but effective and also easy to replicate. Furthermore, this magazine below portrayed all the conventions needed on a front cover magazine such as the masthead which is should be bold and noticeable to the target audiences eye and also encodes hip-hop through the title, also conventions including sell lines, bar codes and the another important feature, a house style which makes the magazine more effective and makes it stand out. All of these conventions for a front cover magazine can be seen on my front cover magazine and shows a hip-hop theme through my house style colours of grey, red and white and a fourth colour of a dark-blue colour in my contents page and double page spread. Lastly, I used a mixture of a mid-shot and a close-up shot, in my front cover, which was influenced by the front cover below of wiz khalifa.
Above, is my second media product, my contents page. My contents page has a relevant structure to it, on the right side of my page, I have designed special tabs that go down of importance with the Cover story at the top of the Contents page, then Features, then Regulars and I added, non-related stories to my Music magazine so that I have a wider audience range to target. Furthermore I have challenged the common convention of having two contents pages,I chose to use one page for my contents page as I did not want to apply myself to the norm of this convention, I also thought that this made my contents page more effective. Furthermore on my contents page I have included all the necessary conventions except, the repetition of my slogan and the use of reviews on my page, also I included page numbers over my pictures which The Source did not do, I did this to make my magazine stand out.
Lastly, is my Third media product, My double page spread. Just like my other pages, I have included my masthead on the top and included all the other necessary conventions as you can see below, the exemplar, one side has a picture of the model and a meaningful quotation which links to the text, the other is information referring to the artist, their background and where they came from. In my design I have imitated a similar concept, as the one below is simple and is done in most magazine.Below is a image that I annotated showing the different and necessary conventions, that I have included into my double page spread.
To conclude, some of my media products challenge mainstream magazine's in many ways, first of all my contents page challenges the mainstream, through the structure. Mainstream magazines tend to  have featured information on the left side of the page and is also spread out on two pages, however with my design, I have added all the content, that will be featuring in my magazine on one page

Font Selections

As you can see above is a variation of different San-serif  fonts that I have selected to use on my Front magazine cover, Contents page and Double page spread. From the fonts above I have chosen three different fonts that I believe would suit my theme/house style of my magazine and give my magazine a professional finish to it.
The three fonts that I have chosen to use on the different pages are Bebas Neue, Primetime and Coolvetica. To me these three fonts stand out the most and also looks like a common fonts that have been used on Hip Hop magazines, which is the genre of music that I am going for. Furthermore these three different fonts has a sort of elegance to them, which I believe would make my magazine stand out among other Hip hop magazines and other magazine.
The other fonts I didn't select were not selected for use as they didn't look like the type of font you would commonly find on/in Hip hop magazine's today or ever, moreover these fonts did not fit the style that I am aiming for in magazine and therefore were not selected as they did not appeal to me.

Kuler colour Palette

Above are the colors that I will be using on my Music magazine, I selected these colors as they are mainstream colors that are typically used on Hip-hop magazines, and usually make Hip-hop magazines stand out. Furthermore these colors in a way represent the themes of Hip-hop, allowing my magazine to be recognized as a Hip-hop Music Magazine by a Hip-hop audience.
The top row, consisting of the colors white, black, dark grey, red and dark red are the colors that I am planning to use on and in my magazine design. I will be using this set of colors to create an urban house style in my magazine.
The others rows of color schemes are similar to the color scheme that I chose, but to me the other colors are either to dark, or the opacity of the color is low and does not appeal to me, which would also not appeal to my target market/audience. Finally the other colors to me are boring and look lifeless.

Hip-hop Mood board and summary

My Mood board aims to show the features in my Hip hop magazine, it also aims to show the different kind of shots I would like to use for my magazine cover page, the pictures of soulja boy, Rick Ross and Lil-Wayne, are camera shot/angles I would want to use on the cover of my music magazine.
Furthermore, the other pictures on my mood board shows the different features that i am going to include on my magazine, such as interviews with mainstream artists, new album releases and other Hip-hop related issues.
Moreover, the image with a close up shot of lil Wayne, Is the type of shot, I want to feature on the front cover of my magazine, I like this image as the model's posture and body language reflect the different themes of modern Hip Hop, which is what I aiming to do for my magazine, so that my audience can see that I am similar in the way top tier magazines design their magazines.
Furthermore, I chose the bottom image as want to feature stories about break dancing, which was inspired by Hip Hop music, which is why I would want to include it, also this is the type of shot/image that I would feature or include inside my magazine as it gives a feel of how Hip Hop music brings people together and creates an exciting environment.
Furthermore, the type of body language that I am aiming for in my shots are feelings of aggression or body language that shows superiority, also I aim to have

House style between front cover, contents and double page spread_case study_Classic Rock

Above is a collage consisting of the magazine cover, the content's page and a double page spread from the magazine 'Classic Rock', issue OCT 2012. The cover page consists of links to the rock band Iron Maiden.  You can see this through the use of images of pharaohs and pyramids and text stating 'United States of Maiden' and 'In Maiden we trust' creating a sense of collective identity between the pages.   They make a big play on the national identity of the group with America being a theme across all pages.  They have used a variety of images from the live concert, big effects with the smoke and pyrotechnics and yellow lighting create a fiery ambiance which reflects the rebellious nature of rock.  The use of a dollar bill background underpins the theme of patriotism and ties together the front cover and the double page spread (cover story).  The front cover challenges the conventions of a typical magazine front cover, they can do this as they are a very well known magazine, a main music genre that embodies individualistic attitudes.  Classic Rock have chosen an image of a band member from Iron Maiden to use on the contents page, its importance is represented by its size, taking up 75% of the page emphasizes the focus on the cover story.  They also have a quote and the name of the band of the cover story on the image in quite big font to draw the audience's attention to it.

Magazine pictures

above are pictures I took to use for my magazine cover, furthermore the pictures on the left is the ones I chose to use for my magazine design, whereas the ones on the right is the one's I chose not to use, this is because the angles that I took the picture in, do not appeal to my magazine and would not make my magazine stand out like I wanted it to, also the models pose's did not relate to the type of magazine that I am trying to show and also the pictures i didn't really like.

College magazine survey results analysis

Above are the results that I received from my college magazine survey, my survey received a higher male response than a female response, which shows that my magazine should maybe be aimed more at a male audience, but should have a few female appeals inside.
